As a 1983 graduate of the Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Katsu became one of the leading sand sculptors worldwide. Katsu is also known as a renowned producer and director for organizing outstanding events in Japan. He participated as a sand artist in other countries like Singapore, India, Kuweit, The Netherlands, Italy, Canada and the United States.
As founder of the Fukiage-hame Sand Festival, he initiated the festival from 1987 until 2002, he became in a short time a pioneer for modern sand sculpting as an art form as well as an excellent and important artist in Japan and abroad. He even has been honored as ‘One of 100 Japanese Indiviuals the World Respects’. Since 2006 he has been Executive Producer of the Tottori Sand Dunes Sand Museum, the only venue of its kind in the world.
